City of 100 Murals

Hattiesburg is well on its way to earning the title "The City of 100 Murals" by 2025 and has already been named a “Top 11 Art Destination in the World” by Travel + Leisure Magazine. The city currently boasts over 55 murals, and its walls have become a vibrant gallery of artistic expression with the help of the Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art. Each mural tells a story, reflecting the city's rich history, diverse culture, and bright future. From larger-than-life portraits to abstract masterpieces, these murals transform ordinary buildings into extraordinary works of art.

The HBURG Public Art Trail: A Canvas of Creativity

Hattiesburg's commitment to the arts is evident in every corner of the city, and nowhere is this more apparent than on the HBURG Public Art Trail. With over 55 stops, this trail showcases the city's dedication to beautifying public spaces and supporting local and national artists. With murals spanning three stories tall to painted walkways, HBURG paints the town! The HBURG Public Art Trail is walkable, bikeable, and drivable, plus it’s great for all ages, solo travelers, and families to explore.

Sculptures and Installations

Beyond murals, Hattiesburg's public art scene includes an impressive array of sculptures and installations. These three-dimensional pieces add depth and intrigue to the cityscape, inviting viewers to interact with art in new and exciting ways. From whimsical creations in parks to thought-provoking installations in areas across town, these sculptures contribute to Hattiesburg's unique artistic identity.

The Utility Box Edition

We couldn’t just stop at murals and sculptures. In 2020, the Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art founded the companion trail to the HBURG Public Art Trail, the HBURG Public Art Trail: Utility Box edition. This project has transformed 44 ordinary utility boxes into extraordinary canvases, connecting neighborhoods and main thoroughfares with bursts of color and creativity. Painted by local and national artists, these utility boxes showcase diverse styles and themes, turning everyday objects into conversation pieces.

Get Involved with Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art

The Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art was founded in 2014 to further advance the promotion of the arts in the community. An umbrella organization under VisitHATTIESBURG, HAPA is passionate about making art available to all and a free part of everyday life. HAPA believes in the power of art to vitalize our community for residents and visitors alike in ways farther-reaching than aesthetics.
