Breakfast: The Midtowner
Real breakfast. Real lunch. Real local. That is their motto, and you’ll find just that in this community café. A Robert St. John concept, The Midtowner is a diner located in the heart of Midtown HBURG, adjacent to The University of Southern Mississippi and Hattiesburg’s boutique hotel - Hotel Indigo. Robert St. John has spent almost four decades in the restaurant business. Thirty-two of those years have been as the owner of Crescent City Grill, Mahogany Bar, Tabella, Ed’s Burger Joint and The Midtowner in Hattiesburg, MS. St. John is a restaurateur, chef, columnist, and author. For over 20 years, he has written a weekly syndicated newspaper column.
Activity: The Lucky Rabbit
The Lucky Rabbit is two big, old buildings located next door to each other. They're filled with unique finds and nostalgic treasures from long ago. It was created in early 2013, by Brandon and Abby Thaxton, who had a small budget and a big vision. 10 years later, the store has grown to become one of Hattiesburg’s local favorite places to visit and bring the family.
The Lucky Rabbit is open every Saturday and Sunday. The unique shop boasts over-the-top displays, such as vintage arcades, old cola machines, working payphone booths, and old video game systems. Additionally, Brandon and Abby focus on fun displays that are great for photos, such as a Volkswagen Buses, a 1970's McDonald's Hamburger Jail, and nostalgic TV show recreations. The Lucky Rabbit is open every Saturday 9a-6p and Sunday 11a-5p and constantly restocking your favorite vintage finds, furniture, local nostalgia, unique gifts, and more.
Lunch: Birdie’s Café
Located in one half of an appliance store, Chef Katie Dixon, of MasterChef fame, owns Bridie’s Café and sets the scene for a cozy, welcoming breakfast or lunch. The local eatery focuses on healthy meals with a southern twist. Katie was a finalist on Masterchef season 7 & Food Network Star season 14. She opened the Birdie’s Café (formerly Birdhouse Café) in 2017 to create an environment where everyone leaves feeling loved, nourished & inspired. She also offers a full-service meal prep program, a healthy sweet treats menu, private dining, event catering & cooking classes. Katie serves as a spokesperson for the MS UProot Campaign - a campaign with the objective of “building a healthier Mississippi from the ground up.” She has also partnered with Walmart to provide healthy, affordable recipes to families nationwide.
Activity: Mohawk Steel & Glass
Located on Thomley’s Christmas Tree Farm, Mohawk Steel & Glass is a the only glassblowing shop in Mississippi offering hands-on experiences. You will work alongside a professional glassblower to create your own glass-blown creation that you can bring home as the perfect souvenir.Dinner: Keg & BarrelA local favorite for craft beer drinkers, food lovers and friends. The Keg, located in a late 19th-century home with a wraparound porch, boasts a 100+ craft beer menu, including Mississippi favorites and a variety of specialty and classic beers from some of the world’s finest breweries. Seat yourself! We recommend snagging a spot outside if the weather is nice.
Dinner: Keg & Barrel
Enjoy dinner at Mississippi's premier beer emporium and pub food restaurant. Housed in a late 1800 century home, Keg and Barrel has original wood work, a wrap-around porch and charm that makes it feel like home. It features a tap wall that, for some, just might be considered the 8th wonder of the world. Beer is available everywhere from Germany to Ireland to local Mississippi brews. The extensive tap wall, which often gets mistaken for as decoration, boasts over 60 beers on draught. Top shelf liquor and wine, along with more than 80 whiskeys, are also available.
Late Night: Fat Cat – Live Music
If you're seeking a vibrant nightlife experience, The Fat Cat should be on your list. Located in a renovated 1930s warehouse, it's not just a bar; it's a cultural phenomenon. With live music, stand-up comedy and themed parties, The Fat Cat has something happening almost every night of the week. The quirky decor and welcoming atmosphere make it a favorite among locals and a must-visit for anyone in town. Order a craft cocktail or a local beer, soak in the eclectic ambiance and dance the night away inside, or relax outside on their covered patio.

SouthBound offers mouth-watering fresh bagels and bread made every morning. Get there early because Southbound is Hattiesburg's worst-kept secret!
Activity: 1964 Freedom Summer Trail
Hattiesburg served as the largest Freedom Summer area in the nation. Hattiesburg’s 1964 Freedom Summer Trail honors locals and volunteers who championed the cause and consists of 16 stops, making it the biggest of its kind in the Southeast U.S. Each stop on the trail has its own oral history audio component, featuring reflections from those who were directly involved in this demonstrative change in America.
Lunch: Movie Star Restaurant

Activity: Paddle the Pinebelt Blueways or Bike the Longleaf Trace
The Longleaf Trace is South Mississippi's premier running, biking, hiking and equestrian trail. It is a beautiful linear park, 44 miles long and fairly flat, extending from Downtown Hattiesburg through Sumrall, Bassfield and Carson to Prentiss. The trail is 10 feet wide and paved with asphalt, making it simple and enjoyable to navigate. Bikes are available to rent at the Longleaf Trace Gateway or other local bike shops. Or if water is more your scene the Leaf and Bouie Rivers create the Pinebelt Blueways. Offering more than 50 miles of beautiful, scenic rivers to explore. Reconnect with nature by taking in the solitude, sights, and sounds of this refreshing outdoor experience, suitable for all ages and ability levels. Wade in pools, float down the river, canoe, kayak, or sunbathe on a sandbar. Whatever you do, just don’t forget to pack sunscreen!
Dinner: Big Trouble
Quickly becoming a go-to date night spot in Hattiesburg, Chef Nofke and team have blended Asian and American dishes to serve up truly unique meals. Think: pork rinds on shrimp fried rice or a deconstructed bacon cheeseburger bowl with (you guessed it) fried rice. (There’s more than just rice though!)
Late Night: Southern Prohibition Brewery
Southern Prohibition Brewery was Hattiesburg’s first brewery and continues to grow. With a beautiful, recently renovated taproom, outdoor game space, and indoor event space, it is simply a fun place to be! Fan favorites are Suzy B Blonde Ale, Mississippi Fire Ant, and Crowd Control.
Breakfast: Coney Island Café
This restaurant has been keeping it in the family for over 100-years. What started as a fruit stand is now a mainstay diner in downtown Hattiesburg.
