Fall In Love With Hattiesburg
Fall season in any college town is alive with excitement, but Hattiesburg takes it up a notch. In fact, you’ll find a whole lot more than just football – although, who DOESN’T love a little pig skin?!?
Hattiesburg has emerged as a place that defines the new South. Known as the Hub City, HBURG is abundant with art, craft beer, outdoor activities and so much more (like Golden Eagle football, of course).
Southern Prohibition Brewing is a craft brewery that, like Hattiesburg, melds tradition and experimentation. Soak in a tour of the brewery and taste their variety of ten drafts in the taproom. You’ll find the Mercury Pizza food truck, complete with a brick fire oven in the yard, so grab a pie while you play kickball pool and sip a pint.
Feeling hungry? Head to HBURG Oct. 6 through 13 for the second annual Hattiesburg Restaurant Week. Join foodies from near and far for an OctoberFEAST! This year’s event will highlight specialty hamburgers – a nod to the loved nickname “Hattiesburger.” Become a certified HBURG Foodie by downloading the Foodie Guide and taking a bite out of Restaurant Week.
Opt for a very Hattiesburg-esque photo opportunity at The Lucky Rabbit, where a new “Hattiesbird” mural graces the north side of the building. The Lucky Rabbit is a one-of-a-kind local market that is open the first Thursday through Sunday each month. In this Mobile Street shop, you’ll find local crafts, unique furniture, some of the best vintage finds, and so much more. The Lucky Rabbit’s popular Stranger Things photo-op set will be closing soon, so get there quickly to experience The Upside Down while you still can! Special fall openings include Oct. 3 – 6, Nov. 2, Nov. 7-10, and Nov. 29-30.
If music is more your speed, make plans to attend the much-loved Eaglepalooza on November 8. This free concert on the streets of Downtown Hattiesburg has been a highlight of activity for University of Southern Mississippi students, locals, and visitors since 2004, drawing in thousands of music lovers each year. Eaglepalooza has welcomed a variety of nationally-known acts such as Train and Gavin DeGraw, and this year’s headliner will be announced soon!
As the weather cools, take it all in downtown at Live at Five on Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25. This free, outdoor live music series is the perfect winddown after a long week. Don’t forget your chair, blanket, or cooler. Or, if you’re looking for something to get your heart going, journey to the Longleaf Trace. Converted from an old railroad route, the Trace is a 41-mile, multi-use, paved trail that begins in Hattiesburg and travels through other towns along the way.
HBURG has events every weekend. Plan your trip around a few, including Sloth-a-Thon at Hattiesbug Zoo on Oct. 5, Southern Miss Football on Oct. 12, Fall Art Walk on Oct. 19, the 3rd annual Bourbon Celebration on Nov. 7, or the Pinebelt Holiday Expo on Nov. 16.
Enjoy your visit to the hub of activity as you venture around Hattiesburg!
