Founded on the timber and railroad industries, Hattiesburg is a modern, Mississippi city. Previously the “big city” for many smaller communities, it naturally became the destination for entertainment, shopping, and industry. As such, Hattiesburg’s history includes being an integral supporter of the Civil Rights Movement, having the first roots of Rock ‘n Roll recorded in its downtown by Uaroy and Roosevelt Graves, and supporting every military mission through the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center.
